ADAN PAREDES.png

Adán Paredes (Mexico City, 1961) is currently one of the most important ceramicists in the country; his monumental works convey his fascination with the traditional and the contemporary, offering the world a glimpse of his unique worldview.

He studied Archaeology at the National School of Anthropology and History. From that engagement with the history of humanity, his work stems from a deep understanding of the relationship between human beings and materials. Through clay and other elements, he constructs pieces that oscillate between the sculptural and the architectural, generating forms of great presence that engage with both space and viewer. His work is distinguished by a constant investigation of matter, where texture, volume, and the transformation of materials become fundamental axes of his practice.

He has received numerous distinctions, among them: Honorable Mention at the First Ceramics Biennial of the Museo de Arte Moderno, Mexico City; Residency at the Gruber Jez Foundation in Yucatán; Residency at the School of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria; and a residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Alberta, Canada.

His works form part of the collections of museums and foundations including: the Museum of Contemporary Art of Yucatán, the Gruber Jez Foundation AC, the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Oaxaca, the Latin American Art Museum of Los Angeles, the Pinacoteca of the Centro de las Artes de Nuevo León, the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, and the Cultural Center of Latin America, among other institutions.

"In dialogue with spaces, matter — and people."
