Armando Romero
Painting · Printmaking · Sculpture

Armando Romero is a Mexican painter who studied at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda" in Mexico City. From 1991 to 1997 he taught sculpture, painting, and art history at La Esmeralda; from 1991 to 1993 he taught art history, design, and drawing at the Centro Universitario de Estudios en Ciencias y Comunicaciones in Mexico City, and in 2002 he taught painting at the School of Visual Arts of Michoacán.
In his works, Armando Romero has mastered time — wielding it at will — capable of technically reproducing a classical piece as a point of departure, only to intervene in it and give it a meaning entirely different from its original conception, speaking about the contemporary. His creations embody a portrait of our era: a present saturated with images, icons, colors, forms, and textures that juxtapose themselves in the mind of the viewer.
His work forms part of significant collections including: the Museum of Contemporary Art of Oaxaca; Grupo United Distillers; Pintart S.A. de C.V. Corporativo Ultra; Grupo Rototank; Muñoz Arquitectos y Asociados S.C.P.; and Ferrell Schultz and Fertl P.A., Miami, FL.
He has exhibited internationally in Paris, San Diego, New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, Boston, Switzerland, Miami, New Orleans, Zurich, and El Salvador. In Mexico, his work has been presented at the Museo de Arte de Querétaro, the Palacio Nacional, Museo del Carmen, Museo Nacional de la Estampa, Claustro de Sor Juana, Museo Rufino Tamayo, Museo de Arte Moderno, and the Museo Diego Rivera.
