Born in Uruapan, Michoacán in 1963. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas-UNAM and the Escuela Nacional de Conservación, Restauración y Museografía Manuel del Castillo Negrete-INAH. In 2013 he received the Presea Melchor Ocampo from the Palacio Legislativo de Morelia, and in 2015 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Universidad Autónoma de Campeche.

Jorge Marín was appointed UNICEF Mexico Goodwill Ambassador in 2019, in recognition of his work in support of the rights of children and adolescents through the creation of artistic creativity workshops serving vulnerable communities.

Over the years, his work has expanded beyond exhibition halls and private collections, becoming part of the urban landscape in streets and plazas around the world. He has participated in more than 320 group and solo exhibitions. Beyond Mexico, his work has been exhibited in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Canada, the United States, Germany, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Spain, Denmark, France, Hungary, England, Latvia, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Turkey, Kuwait, Lebanon, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, and Japan.

In 2010, Jorge Marín exhibited thirteen monumental sculptures along Paseo de la Reforma, one of Mexico City's most iconic landmarks, with the aim of bringing them closer to the public — open to touch, to sight, and to the direct interaction of passersby. From that moment on, his work and his search as a sculptor were enriched by the ambition to reach an ever more diverse audience.

"Art is the mark we leave on the world — it reflects and communicates what is essentially human; it is, therefore, the finest mirror in which we can see ourselves and, in doing so, find ourselves."
