Maximino Javier
Painting · Printmaking · Sculpture

Maximino Javier has spent more than 40 years bringing his visions to life through printmaking, painting, and sculpture. His works are the legacy of his love for the customs and stories of Oaxaca — for the culture that has surrounded him since childhood.
He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Oaxaca and was a founding member of the Rufino Tamayo Workshop in the city. His work has transcended borders; it has been exhibited at venues including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Gallery of the French Institute of Latin America. His work also forms part of the collections of Continental Bank in Chicago; Phillip Morris Corp in New York; the Mexican Museum of Art in Chicago; the University of Iowa Museum of Art; the Banco Nacional de México; the Byer Museum of Art in Chicago; the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montevideo; and the Ben Nordemaa Collection in New York.
Maximino Javier is considered one of the most internationally established Oaxacan artists of his generation. Throughout his career he has masterfully explored printmaking, oil painting, and sculpture in bronze and ceramics. His work is meticulous — his personal standards regarding color, form, and composition are evident in each piece and have become the hallmark of his style.
His creations reveal a distinctive visual language in which technique is a constant — crafting concave compositions that transcend the first glance to embed themselves in the mind of the viewer.
