Painting · Printmaking · Sculpture

Rocío Caballero is a Mexican visual artist with over twenty-five years of career. A graduate of the ENPEG La Esmeralda in Mexico City, her figurative work invites immediate reflection; her critique of elements we consider inherently human is sharp. Although her work is forceful and intense at first glance, closer observation unmasks a parallel world in which humanity appears vulnerable — Rocío constantly reveals her reflection on the world around her.
In defiance of gender role conventions, Rocío Caballero refuses to be just another artist in female painting exhibitions: "My surname is Caballero and I paint like one" — these are her own words to describe her brushstroke.
Her work has been organized around distinct series, among them: La Búsqueda de la Ataraxia (2013), La Búsqueda del Paraíso (2012), El Código Gris (2011), Los Territorios del Vacío (2007), El Anecdotario de los Duendes Grises (2004), and De Ahogos y Susurros (2001).
Her work forms part of the collections of the National Museum of Mexican Art (Chicago), the Museo del Arzobispado (Mexico City), and the Museo de Arte de Sinaloa. She has participated in nearly 80 solo and group exhibitions throughout Mexico and the United States.
