PINTOR ROMAN MIRANDA_edited.jpg

Román Miranda, born in Mexico City in 1973, he began his career in the visual arts in 2000. A realist painter, draftsman, and printmaker, specializing in portraiture and fantastical representation. He is distinguished by a singular mastery of technique and composition. His work is a call to commune with our own scars — an unavoidable invitation to memory, to reflection, and to undertake a long purifying journey of self-observation and self-discovery.

Among other distinctions, he has been awarded a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation of New York. First prize at the Third International Drawing Biennial Silvya Pawa, Mexico/Israel Cultural Institute, 2006. First prize in the printmaking category at the First National Biennial of Painting and Printmaking "Nómada", Cosoleacaque, Veracruz, 2013. Honorable Mention at the First Self-Portrait Biennial Rubén Herrera, San Luis Potosí, 2017, and Honorable Mention in the printmaking category at the Second Centro-Occidente Prize for Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking "José y Tomás Chávez Morado", Guanajuato, 2018.

He has exhibited individually and collectively in Mexico, the United States, and Ireland. His work forms part of the permanent collection of the Museo Regional de Querétaro, the Museo de Arte de Querétaro, and other significant private collections. He currently dedicates part of his time to teaching drawing and painting.

"Emotion interests me more than technique. I prefer to suggest with a brushstroke rather than reveal everything in detail."
