Sergio Garval (Guadalajara, Jalisco, 1968) is a visual artist with over 30 years of career; his work is characterized by profound compositions of great visual impact, reflecting the character of contemporary figuration and his interest in both individual and social themes.

Nude bodies in flooded spaces, filled with scrap metal, toys, stuffed animals, desserts, or cakes — and yet, everything makes sense. His compositions untangle the intentions of a world that, in its search for reason, has fallen into the illogical. His figures question not only faith and institutions, but also our memory and the way we conduct our actions, the way we relate to one another, and the way we present ourselves to the world.

A graduate of the School of Visual Arts of the University of Guadalajara. In 1994 he received a grant from the Consejo Estatal para la Cultura y las Artes de Jalisco. In 1999 he completed a study residency at the School of Visual Arts in New York. In 2003 he received a Young Creators grant from the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (FONCA), and was a member of the National System of Creators of the National Council for Culture and the Arts from 2007 to 2010. His first solo exhibition was "Pasajeros" at the Galería Jorge Martínez of the University of Guadalajara in 1994. Since then he has participated in more than 40 solo and over 150 group exhibitions in galleries and museums across Mexico, Latin America, the United States, Europe, and Asia — among them the Museo Raúl Anguiano in Guadalajara, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Morelia, the Museo Francisco Goitia and Museo Pedro Coronel in Zacatecas, the Casa Museo Diego Rivera in Guanajuato, and the gallery of the Secretaría de Hacienda.

In 2017 he presented the first sculpture in a series of monumental works entitled "Las tres Gracias," as part of Guadalajara's public art program.
