VLADIMIR CORA.png

Vladimir Cora (Nayarit, 1951) is an established painter, sculptor, and printmaker on both the national and international art scenes, with a particularly strong presence in the United States. His works and compositions are the product of a prolific career in which artistic practice has been present at every moment.

His creations in canvas, paper, ceramics, and bronze are inspired by organic forms, portraits, feminine figures, and a tribute to the aesthetics of nature in general. Through his works, Vladimir Cora transforms the reality of the world into chromatic explosions that coexist within his compositions alongside strokes and textures achieved through the layering of materials.

He studied Visual Arts at the School of Painting and Sculpture in Tijuana and at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura y Escultura "La Esmeralda" of the INBA. Throughout his career he has received numerous distinctions, among them: an Honorable Mention at the First Rufino Tamayo Painting Biennial in Oaxaca; the Grand Prize of Four Cultures Fraternity at the First Ibero-American Painting Biennial of the Instituto Andino de Artes Populares in Florida, USA; and in 1989, the Visual Arts Prize of the Government of the State of Nayarit.

In 2015 Vladimir Cora presented the exhibition "Las mujeres de Vladimir," centered on the subject that lies at the heart of most of his work: women. In 2017 the Black Coffee Gallery Foundation published a commemorative volume dedicated to his career and work.

"When I arrive at my studio, it is like facing a battlefield — I bring nothing with me, not a sketch, not an idea."
